On the death of a friend, we should consider that the fates through confidence have devolved on us the task of a double living, that we have henceforth to fulfill the promise of our friend’s life also, in our own, to the world.
Henry David Thoreau
Felixology: books, gifts, and art for the magical mind isn’t an ordinary bookshop; it’s a memorial and celebration of life for Felix Brow, an artist and designer who passed away at age 29 from Biphasic Pleural Mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
Felix had a magical, enchanted, curious-minded childhood surrounded by nature in the historical and literary town of Concord Massachusetts. He spent his childhood days exploring nature by making fairy houses, flower crowns, and mud pies. He spent his teenage years taking Thoreau style walks around the town and the woods learning about the world around him, writing it down in his journal or sketching it in his sketchbook.
Felix grew up to be a scenic designer and window display artist. He worked yearly for nearly a decade at Spoleto Festival USA creating props for operas. As part of his work with Big Heavy Studios in Brooklyn, he created window displays for Tory Burch, Club Monaco, and Ralph Lauren for their top stores internationally. Felix had just gotten his dream job as an art director for Anthropologie when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Felix had to leave his job to undergo intensive cancer treatment and he was heartbroken. During the course of his treatment, Felix decided to return to one of his early passions and he applied to Boston University to get his Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation Architecture. Sadly, he passed away before he could start his studies.
After Felix passed away, his family created the bookshop to carry on his beautiful spirit. Based on the 8 Foundations of Felixology, the bookshop aims to be a warm and welcoming space for all ages and interests. Step inside our enchanted forest to shop or just hang out to read, write, or sketch.
