The bookshop, Felixology, is dedicated to the memory of Felix Brow-Westbrook, who passed away from Mesothelioma in 2018. While homeschooling in middle school and high school, he studied the 7 Da Vincian Principles of Leonardo Da Vinci. In honor of Felix, we made the 8 Foundations of Felixology:
- Infinite Love: Love deeply and unconditionally, both yourself and others. Show love through kindness.
- Magic in the Mundane: Find joy, fun, and whimsy in everyday life. If you can’t find everyday magic, make your own.
- Creativity and Artistic Expression: Find beauty in the world, even in the things others do not- the old, broken, and decrepit, the forgotten and discarded. Make beauty- put your own artistic mark on everything you touch.
- Peace and Well-being: Respect for oneself and respect for others. Peace through simplicity, health, and caring for one’s body.
- Graciousness: Showing appreciation, gratitude, kindness, and respect. Carrying oneself with aplomb and poise.
- Connection: An understanding of the interconnections of life and all things in it, and the fostering of these connections through:
- Understanding oneself through one’s past, present, and future.
- Relationships with one’s family, friends, and ancestors.
- Understanding and appreciation of community.
- Curiosity and Lifelong Learning: Maintaining childhood curiosity and wonder, and striving to honor this through a lifelong quest for knowledge.
- Acceptance: Refers to knowing yourself, accepting yourself, and loving yourself. Refers to seeing others as they are, accepting them as who they are, and loving them as they are. Accept thy fate, love thy fate- go with the flow.
